Cimyah publishes guest guides — the pages a visitor opens when they arrive at somewhere they are staying. Those pages carry the things people need at awkward moments: how to get in, how the heating works, what to do when something breaks. They need to work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, or a large text size.
What we aim for
We build against WCAG 2.1 Level AA. The Americans with Disabilities Act sets no technical standard for a private website, so WCAG is the benchmark we hold ourselves to.
What we have done
- Guides work by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a skip link.
- Every control has a name that says what it does, in the language the guide is being read in.
- Panels that open over the page are announced, keep focus inside, and close with Escape.
- Text and interface colours are checked against the background they sit on, in all eleven themes a host can choose. Automated tests fail the build if a change drops below the threshold.
- Photos are described automatically when they are added, so a picture of a fuse box or a parking spot is not silent.
- The page declares the language it is being read in, and animations follow your system’s reduce-motion setting.
What we know is imperfect
We would rather say this plainly than claim more than we can stand behind.
- Our checks are automated and manual code review. We have not yet completed a full audit with assistive technology, and we have not been audited by a third party.
- Hosts write their own guides. We generate photo descriptions and prompt for clear writing, but we do not control every word or image in a guide, and some will be better than others.
- The map is interactive and is not usable without sight. The same places are always available as text alongside it.
- The host-facing editor has had the same work done, but it is a dense desktop tool and we expect it to be harder to use than the guides themselves.
Telling us about a problem
If something here got in your way, please tell us — it is the fastest way for us to fix it, and we would rather hear it than not.
Email hello@cimyah.com. Tell us the address of the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use a screen reader, magnifier or other assistive technology, saying which one helps us reproduce it.
We aim to reply within five working days. If a fix will take longer than that, we will say so and tell you how we can get you the information in the meantime.
